This is an English translation provided for convenience. The Spanish version at
librumapp.com/terminos is the governing text; if the two ever differ, the
Spanish version prevails.
Librum is an app for readers. These terms explain what the service is, what you can do with
your account, what each plan includes, who owns what, and how the relationship ends if either
of us decides to end it. They are written to be read in full: if something is unclear, write to
us and we will rewrite it.
1. What Librum is
Librum is an app (for iPhone, Android and the web) to keep track of your reading: progress,
streak, library, author and series guides, notes, book clubs, friends and statistics, with some
features assisted by artificial intelligence. It is a living service: we improve it often, and a
feature may change or be retired. We make daily backups and announce changes that matter, but
the service is provided as is, with no guarantee that it will always be
available. You can export your reading and your notes from the app at any time.
2. Your account
- Accounts are created with your email address. At times sign-up may be open
by invitation only; an invitation is personal: do not publish or resell it.
- You must be 13 or older. If we learn that an account belongs to someone
younger, we delete it.
- Your password is yours: do not share it. If you think someone got into your account, change
it from "My account" or write to us.
- One person, one account. You can delete it whenever you want from "My account → Delete my
account and data", which erases everything of yours (see the privacy
policy).
3. What you can and cannot do
You can use Librum to track your own reading, your club's and your friends'. You may not:
- Use the app to harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, whether in
a club, a review, or a question to an author.
- Post content that is not yours or that you have no right to post (for example, the text of a
copyrighted book in a shared note or in a club).
- Impersonate another person, an author or a publisher. Claiming an author profile that is not
yours is grounds for closing your account.
- Try to extract other readers' data, break the security of the service, automate the use of
the app or its AI features, or use it to train another system.
- Resell access, the guides, the aggregates or any other part of the service.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abuse. Any reader can report a
message, a review, a profile or a guide from the content itself (⚑ Report), and block another
person so that neither sees the other. We review reports within 24 hours: content that breaks
these rules is removed, and the account that posted it may be suspended or closed without
prior notice.
4. Who owns what
- What is yours stays yours: your notes, your reviews, your library, your
progress. So that we can show and sync them, you allow us to store and process them; that
permission ends when you delete your account. What you mark as shared (a public review, a
message in a club, a question to an author) is shown to the people you chose, with your
profile name.
- The reading guides, both the hand-curated ones and those forged with AI,
are part of the service. You can use them inside Librum; you may not copy them to publish
elsewhere. A guide you forge joins the shared catalog so the next reader can use it.
- Book covers and book data come from public catalogs and from the authors.
The rights belong to their owners; if you are one and want an image taken down, see the
privacy policy.
- The Librum brand and software are ours.
- Librum is independent. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the
authors, publishers, series or adaptations that appear in its guides, except when an author
has claimed their profile, in which case the profile says so. The names of authors, titles,
series and characters are used only to identify the works. Trademarks and rights belong to
their owners.
Copyright notices
If you hold rights to something that appears in Librum (a cover, a synopsis, the text of a
guide, or something a reader posted) and believe it is used without permission, write to
contact@librumapp.com. Tell us which work it is, where
it appears (the link or the screen) and why it is yours. We review it and, where appropriate,
remove it within 5 business days. An account that repeatedly posts other
people's content is closed.
5. Artificial intelligence features
The copilot, the "up to where I am" summaries, the recommendations and the forged guides use AI
models. They are designed not to spoil the story, but a model can be wrong: it
can make up a fact about a book, misattribute a quote or, at worst, reveal something you did not
want to know. Use them knowing that, and tell us when it happens so we can fix it. Each person
has a usage cap that depends on their plan. Summaries and answers describe what the book is
about in their own words: they do not reproduce its text or replace reading it.
6. Plans and subscription
Librum has a Free plan, with no time limit, and a paid plan,
Librum Codex, that adds features. What each plan includes is shown in the app
before you buy. Codex can be bought on Librum's website or inside the phone app; it is the same
in both cases and is activated on your Librum account, on all your devices.
- How to buy: as a monthly or annual subscription or, while available, as a
one-time lifetime purchase. The price, the duration and any free trial are shown on the
purchase screen, in your currency, before you confirm.
- On the web (Librum → "Codex"): payment is processed by our authorized
reseller, which acts as the seller to you (merchant of record), appears on the
receipt and collects your country's taxes. Its purchase terms are shown at checkout.
- In the app: with your App Store (Apple) or Google Play account. The
store charges you, not Librum.
- Codex for life: we sometimes offer it as a one-time purchase, for a limited
number of people or for a limited time; when the spots run out it is no longer offered. It is
paid once, never renews or charges again, and keeps Codex on your Librum account
for as long as Librum exists: "for life" refers to the life of the service.
If Librum ever stopped operating, we would announce it in advance. What is said below about
renewing and cancelling applies only to subscriptions.
- Automatic renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of
each period, for the same term and at the current price, unless you cancel it at least 24
hours before the period ends. If there is a free trial, the first charge happens when the
trial ends unless you cancelled before.
- How to cancel: where you bought it. If on the web, from Librum → "My
account" → "My plan" → "Manage my subscription". If in the app, from the subscription
settings of your Apple or Google Play account (in the app, "Manage my subscription" takes you
there). After cancelling you keep Codex until the end of the period already paid, and then
your account goes back to Free, without losing any of your reading.
- Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription: cancel it first
where you bought it (on the web or in the store), or you will keep being charged.
- Refunds: Codex purchases are non-refundable, in whole or
in part for unused time, except for our mistake (a duplicate charge, a charge after you
cancelled in time, or a failure that kept you from using Codex) or as required by your
country's consumer protection law. For purchases made on the App Store or Google Play, the
store's rules also apply, and the store may refund you on its own (Apple:
reportaproblem.apple.com; Google Play: from your order history). Details are in the
refund policy (in Spanish).
- Restore: what you bought stays on your Librum account, so signing in is
enough. If you bought in the app and change phones, "Restore purchases" on the Codex screen
recovers it with the same store account.
- If we change the price or what Codex includes, we announce it beforehand, and the store asks
you to confirm when the law or its rules require it.
For purchases made on iPhone, Apple's
standard license
agreement (EULA) also applies; if anything in these terms contradicts it, that agreement
prevails as far as Apple is concerned.
7. Authors, bookstores and publishers
An author, or the imprint that manages them, can claim their profile, publish on it and see
aggregated, anonymous figures about their catalog. Bookstores and publishers will be able to see
aggregated figures about the books in their catalog. In no case do they receive data that
identifies a reader; the exact rules (which figures, the 25-person threshold, how to opt out)
are in the privacy policy, and those terms are part of this
agreement. Librum does not process payments for books: a point of sale is a
link to an outside site and the purchase happens there.
8. Closing an account
You can leave whenever you want. We may close an account that breaks these terms, especially
section 3, with notice by email, except in cases of serious abuse, where closing is immediate.
Closing works like deleting: your data is erased.
9. Liability
We do what is reasonable to keep Librum working and not lose your reading, but we are not liable
for data loss, unavailability, AI errors, or decisions you make based on what the app shows (an
average of pages, a recommendation), to the extent permitted by law. Nothing here limits your
rights as a consumer under the law.
10. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica. For any question or claim,
write first to contact@librumapp.com. We reply within
10 business days.
Changes
When these terms change substantively, their version number goes up and we let you know inside
the app. The version and date are at the top of this document.
